Overview
Johnson Stokes & Master (“JSM“) is a Hong Kong general partnership. JSM, together with its representative offices and/or consultancy service provider are hereinafter referred as the “JSM Practices“.

Johnson Stokes & Master (“JSM“) is a Hong Kong general partnership regulated by The Law Society of Hong Kong. A list of the partners of JSM, and their professional qualifications may be inspected at our office or by following this link to the list of partners. We may use the term “partner” to refer to a partner of JSM, or an employee or consultant who is a lawyer with equivalent standing or qualification, and to a partner of or lawyer with equivalent standing in a JSM Practice.
JSM is in temporary association with Mayer Brown Hong Kong LLP (“MBHKLLP“), a new local Hong Kong firm (the “association“). MBHKLLP operates in conjunction with the other global Mayer Brown practices (collectively referred to as the “Mayer Brown Practices“).
During this temporary association, JSM, MBHKLLP and the other Mayer Brown Practices will share certain systems and data and their staff will collaborate in the operation of those systems. Data may be shared with the Mayer Brown Practices during the association in accordance with the Privacy Notice on our website, subject to a duty of confidentiality. Hence, JSM and the Mayer Brown Practices (including MBHKLLP) will treat themselves as one firm for the purposes of professional conduct rules relating to confidentiality and conflicts.

Lawyers based in the Hong Kong office who are not admitted as solicitors in Hong Kong are subject to regulation by The Law Society of Hong Kong and/or by the relevant regulatory body in their place of admission.

Circumstances and risks in relation to client funds
We only accept client funds where they arise from or are in relation to an underlying transaction on which we have been engaged by the client. If, after a reasonable period of due diligence (generally 5 working days), we cannot identify funds we have received as arising from a transaction on which we are engaged we will either retain the funds pending further investigation or may at our discretion return them to the originator bank. You and any third party uses our client account at your own risk. We accept no liability for loss or damage you suffer if a bank collapses or for reasons outside our control our bank is otherwise unable to transact business or transfer funds in a timely manner or at all.
Notice
Our Firm has been made aware of fictitious business cards, websites and social media platforms including Facebook (“Suspicious materials and pages”), bearing our Firm’s office address purporting to provide consultation and/or legal services to victims of fraud. It has also been reported to us that individuals are purporting to be lawyers and other personnel of our Firm, communicating with victims of fraud via telephone and instant messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram and Line. The profiles of such instant messaging accounts may use pictures of our lawyers and personnel, name (孖士打律師行) and address of our Firm, alleging they can assist victims of fraud.
We would like to clarify that our Firm’s official website is www.jsm.com and we do not have an official Facebook page. We have no connection whatsoever with the Suspicious materials and pages, nor the persons purporting to relate to lawyers or other personnel of our Firm. If in doubt, please refer to contact details provided on our official website should you wish to speak to one of our lawyers.
Anti-money laundering
We may from time to time use online information sources, including electronic verification, to meet our client due diligence obligations pursuant to Practice Direction P of The Law Society of Hong Kong.
