Hong Kong property slump spurs shift of hotels to student housing

Real Estate partner Jasmine Chiu is quoted in Nikkei Asia on the trend of converting some hotels and offices into student housing as investors hope for stable income.

She notes that lenders have become more cautious about extending credit to the property sector as woes in this sector take a toll on balance sheets. However, student accommodation remains a comparatively “attractive business model” for banks if sponsors present strong operation plans and income forecasts, she adds.
