JSM partner Joe Choy, a GBA-qualified lawyer and Member of the Appeal Panel under Hong Kong’s first cybersecurity legislation, and Intellectual Property associate Kari Chow joined a Hong Kong legal sector delegation to Shenzhen led by Deputy Secretary for Justice Dr Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan.
They represented JSM at the “Greater Bay Area Enterprise Global Expansion Enablement Event: Session on Intellectual Property and Data Protection”, supporting Chinese Mainland enterprises in their overseas expansion. The event was co-organised by the Department of Justice, CPC Nanshan District Committee and Nanshan District People’s Government of Shenzhen.
During the sharing session, Joe and Kari discussed key legal risks and mitigation strategies in managing cross-border IP rights and data protection, and highlighted Hong Kong's pivotal role in supporting Chinese Mainland enterprises going global. They also engaged directly with attendees during breakout group discussions to address specific legal challenges.
In attendance were 50 Chinese Mainland enterprises from high-growth sectors including artificial intelligence, electronic information, new energy, biopharmaceuticals, smart hardware and high-end manufacturing, with target markets spanning Southeast Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East. This diverse turnout reflects a robust demand for Hong Kong's legal expertise in supporting Chinese Mainland enterprises as they expand overseas.
